Coach Skill Building – Direct Communication

This fresh, interactive approach is designed to continue to build your coaching skills through the exploration of Core Competencies identified by the International Coach Federation (ICF).  You’ll leave this session with a deeper understanding of the competency and tools that you can put into practice right away. 

Dialogue for the evening will focus on Direct Communication. Terry Hoffmann, our very own Vice President of the ICF North Florida Chapters, will facilitate this interactive process. 

Enjoy sharing and hearing the wisdom of your peers to expand your skills. You are in for a dynamic, educational and fun evening with your colleagues. 

Communicating Effectively – Direct Communication is defined by the ICF as: 

Ability to communicate effectively during coaching sessions, and to use language that has the greatest positive impact on the client.

1. Is clear, articulate and direct in sharing and providing feedback.
2. Reframes and articulates to help the client understand from another perspective what he/she wants or is uncertain about. 
3. Clearly states coaching objectives, meeting agenda, and purpose of techniques or exercises. 
4. Uses language appropriate and respectful to the client (e.g., non-sexist, non-racist, non-technical, non-jargon). 
5. Uses metaphor and analogy to help to illustrate a point or paint a verbal picture. 

We are hosting Wisdom Circles to support our local coaching community’s further development of ICF Core Competencies, which are the fundamentals for high quality professional coaching. Core Competencies identified by the ICF help define our accountability and responsibility as a coach.  

This session is being approved by ICF for 1 CCE for Core Competency. 

Your Facilitator – Terry Hoffmann, MA, PCC, BCC, LMHC, NCC 

Vice President 2017 ICF North Florida (First Coast Coaches Association) Board of Directors.  She is an Executive Coach and President of Hoffmann Coaching LLC. She specializes in coaching physicians, leaders, teams, and individual contributors in the healthcare, insurance, manufacturing, aerospace, legal, non-profit, education, and board of directors communities. 

Terry partners with companies as well as individuals to improve performance and increase capacity while deepening professional satisfaction. She also advises companies on implementing and improving their overall coaching strategy. 

Terry currently holds the PCC credential. She is a Center for Credentialing and Education Board Certified Coach, a Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor (MH4501) and a National Board Certified Counselor (49314). 

Terry is a graduate of the Executive and Professional Coaching Certificate Program at the University of Texas at Dallas, Naveen Jindal School of Management. She has extensive coach training beginning in 2007 through ILCT, Harvard coaching conference, ICF Conferences, and other coaching education providers. She holds a Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Florida. She has a Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Colorado State University.
